You need to keep written evidence/documentation supporting your tax return for five (5) years from the due date of lodging your tax return, or five (5) years from the date you lodge you tax return, whichever is later. However, other documentation needs to be kept for a longer period, for example, documents for the purchase of an asset should be retained until the tax return has been lodged within which the asset is disposed of, and then for a further five (5) years in accordance with the aforementioned rules.
